I don’t get much joy telling about my own sins, but if I have to learn from them the I guess it is high time I write about them. I am keeping with the theme of slaying dragons that I wrote about here for the purpose of continuity. If man’s chief end is to glorify God and enjoy him forever then the logical inference is that we are to look forward to the defeat of Satan, the dragon of Revelation, and be killing that dragon in our own lives. But who teaches our children to do this?
The Experienced Dragon Slayer
In my previous articles I talked about how all men are to be dragon slayers, and I hopefully explained this from the scripture. But who are the men who teach the young ones how to do this?
The experienced dragon slayer is one that shows all of the marks of Biblical masculinity in his life. Unfortunately the church today has helped in making our men more feminine than masculine. From our modern hymns, to the sermons, to the coffee that is served after the service… overall the church is feminizing our men and it doesn’t seem like it is going to stop, maybe it is time for a masculine Reformation, just a thought.
But there are still some Biblical men left. A Biblical man is one who emulates Christ in all he does. He strives to keep God’s commandments, takes responsibility for all things under his headship, repents for any sin he does wrong, and is self-sacrificial. These are not the only things that encompass masculinity, but these are the main things that encompass the Biblical man.
The Old Dragon Slayers Have to be Willing to Teach
“Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. 7 In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, 8 Sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you.” -Titus 2:6-8
In the passage above Paul is telling Titus, “Young men likewise exhort…” or “Teach the young men to…” Older men and men in church authority need to be willing to teach younger men. There is a reason why our men are becoming feminine, and it is because no one is teaching on Biblical masculinity. Dragon slaying is a tricky and messy business that requires a thoroughly masculine hand. Swords, shields, fire, and, mountain caves filled with gold. This is what the dragon slayer is walking into. Unless someone teaches our young men to fight we will either be sending them into the cave to be slaughtered, be over run with Dragons, or both.
Soli Deo Gloria!
