I’ve been reading Douglas Wilson for a few years now. Since I’ve entered the Reformed world there has been one name under heaven by which all people screech in division and this name is Doug Wilson. Since I’ve been teaching I’ve tried to be balanced, agreeing where I can agree and calling out what I need to. I have approached politics, theology, social issues and the like in this way. But Doug is an anomaly.
Since 2018 Idaho pastor Doug Wilson has adopted, if only for a month, a piratical persona in his writing. Sitting on a burning couch he called his readers to read his work and understand his thinking in a deep and thought provoking way. The shock and awe of his writing has forced his opponents to point fingers at him and his readers to share his content far and wide, either way he has won.
Just A Taste
“So, how do you think they responded when someone proposed bringing queer treasure into the New Jerusalem? How do you think they responded when a PCA church sponsored a conference using all the LGBTQ+ jargon? Don’t you love that plus? What’s under that, I wonder? Actually, nobody wonders. He has a way to make you throw your hands up and pull your hair out doesn’t he? In a very Trumpian fashion he points a finger and draws attention to the murder as it happens. No willingness to let the killer off the hook he plays witness and prosecution… this is the talent of Douglas Wilson and it is worth reading.
But… Moscow Man Is Bad Isn’t He?
I have no evidence to show one way or another as to prove or disprove any moral failings on the part of Doug Wilson. He has a church under his leadership and a platform upon which he teaches, so is that not worth looking at? A portion of what he teaches I disagree with, a portion I agree with. I am convinced that a good portion of the hatred of this man comes from his association with the Federal Vision controversy. Am I wrong?
